Delft, Netherland-based DeNoize, a smart window technology that can transform any glass facade into a noise-cancelling system, announced that it has raised just over €1M in a fresh round of funding.

In 2020, the Dutch startup raised €200K from Innovation Quarter’s proof-of-concept fund, UNIIQ, to develop the patented active noise cancellation technology. DeNoize now claims to have completed several key milestones toward the commercialisation of its technology.

The round saw participation from IQ Capital fund along with existing investor InnovationQuarter and several angel investors.

Hans Peter Fris (MD at FRIS | Real People) and Edwin van Emmerik (Real estate Investor), investors in DeNoize, say “believe that tackling noise pollution will become a major goal in realising a healthier living and working environment for the building occupants. Until now, the facades of buildings were designed with thicker glass and heavier materials to minimise noise transmission. The DeNoize technology makes it possible to construct lighter facades, bringing down construction costs considerably and making it possible to construct homes in places where it was not possible before.”

The Dutch company is also supported by Schiphol’s Living Environment Foundation and Royal Schiphol Group. Both parties see potential in DeNoize’s technology – their smart windows represent an opportunity to reduce noise nuisance around Amsterdam Schiphol airport.

Joost Wagemakers, Director of Schiphol’s Living Environment Foundation, says, “We are providing DeNoize with financial support in the form of an innovation subsidy, so that among other things, pilots can be carried out. We hope to apply the technology within our programme soon, if this is successful, to improve the perceived living environment for local residents further.”

DeNoize has created its Start-Up EcoSystem in the Netherlands and Europe by combining public organizations like Royal Schiphol Group, industrial partners like NSG/Pilkington, advisors and funding partners. The company is now preparing for commercial release at the beginning of 2023.

Aman Jindal, CEO of DeNoize, says, “This new investment funding enables DeNoize to grow its team and transform our proven active noise cancellation technology into a market-ready product while expanding our current IP portfolio. It also enables collaboration with strategic partners and puts the company on the trajectory to scale up in the near future.”

Founded in 2019 by Aman Jindal and Olivier Schevin, DeNoize started as a response to the ever-growing noise problem in cities and areas around busy highways or airports. The WHO has even regarded noise pollution as the second-largest health risk, which has catalysed a series of stricter noise regulations imposed on highways, railways and aviation.

DeNoize aims to tackle noise pollution in cities and enable a healthier and more comfortable living environment for residents.

The company has developed an active noise reduction technology for windows that can block a majority of the outside noise from entering homes. It works on the principle of counter vibrating the glass in order to cancel the outdoor noise. The technology predicts the glass vibrations and mirrors the movements, thereby reducing noise levels drastically.

DeNoize’s technology can reduce noises emanating from aeroplanes and highway noises while amplifying pleasant sounds such as birdsong in the morning and rain sounds. The company wants to bring users closer to nature through sounds.
